  Academy Progressive (Ages 6 - 13 years)

This course sends swimmers on their way to becoming ready for the Mission Valley YMCA Mini Seals or Swim Team. Swimmers progress to learn all four competitive strokes.

 

  • Academy Progressive I (Ages 6-13 years)
    This course is designed for the student apprehensive about getting into the water. Instruction consists of balance and buoyancy, going under water and blowing bubbles. Practiced students will be able to back float, jump in with assistance and kick with the kickboard and fins.
    Prerequisite: Age appropriate, Academy Preschool 1 or
    equivalent
    Ratios: 1:3
  • Academy Progressive 2 (Ages 6-13 years)
    This course is designed for the student comfortable in the water and able to front float and back float with assistance. Practiced students will learn arm strokes, turning from front
    to back for breath and kicking.

Prerequisite: Age appropriate,

Academy Progressive 1 or equivalent
Ratios: 1:3

  • Academy Progressive 3 (Ages 6-13 years)
    Entering students must be able to swim 20 meters using arm strokes and kicks with back float breaths. Practiced students will learn elementary backstroke, side breathing, backstroke, butterfly kick and diving.
    Prerequisite: Academy Progressive 2
    Ratios: 1:4
  • Academy Progressive 4 (Ages 6-13 years)
    Entering students must be able to swim 25 meters freestyle without assistance, backstroke and elementary backstroke. Practiced students will learn breaststroke, butterfly, and develop strong skills in side breathing and freestyle endurance.
    Prerequisite: Academy Progressive 3
    Ratios: 1:4
