Skate Camp

Overview:

Skate Camp is the most fun you’ll ever have. Staff at the Skate Park teach all the children in groups by their skill levels, giving them the best instruction from experienced
skateboarders. We have visiting amateur and pro skateboarders and lots of goodies and prizes we give away every Friday at our mini-skate contest.

History:

The Mission Valley YMCA has one of the greatest camp experiences for the youth of San Diego County. It is an experience for all children, and financial assistance is available.

The park has been evolving for well over a decade and has moved through four offsite facilities. We've been located in Clairemont for the last seven years, where the skate camp program has grown and is at its best so far. We offer the most exciting skate camp available at a reasonable cost. With the help of a motivated and skilled staff, the summer of 2009 will serve as yet another building block in the great history of the skate park.

Instruction:

Campers receive developmental instruction from beginning to intermediate on skateboarding basics. Age-appropriate and skill-appropriate instruction will be provided on techniques, as well as safety! Skaters must bring and wear safety gear, including helmet, elbow and knee pads and their skateboards. We do not have or rent equipment. Camp takes place at Krause Family Skate Park in Clairemont and originates at the Mission Valley YMCA.

Skate Camp Contests:

Every Friday the instructors hold a non-competitive contest for all campers who wish to participate.  Parents are welcome to come and watch what their child has learned all week.

Contest varies from races, relays and skill. We positively motivate all campers and help them strive to be proud of the skills that they have mastered. During the summer, each week we have a different skateboard company sponsor that donates prizes to all the campers. Stayed tuned during the summer to see which companies are helping out… and who knows, they might even send a few professionals down to skate too!
